STEP ONE // TAKE EVERYTHING OUT
Find a clean and clean surface and take everything out of your bag, even from those little compartments some bags usually have. Clean the inside of the bag, you probably have some crumbs in there don't you? Set your clean bag to the side and continue to the next step.
STEP TWO // TAKE CARE OF THE PILE
Divide your pile into sections like essentials, beauty, trash, other mysterious items. Now you can sort out one pile at the time so that you know where those items belong and you can place them in their place.

STEP THREE // CARDS & RECEIPTS
We always find ourselves with a wallet or bag filled with cards and receipts that we don't even need or use anymore. Sort your cards and get rid of everything you no longer use and check all your receipts to see if there is anything important to save and toss the rest.
STEP FOUR // USE POUCHES
STEP FOUR // USE POUCHES
By using small bags to divide your items you will be saving a lot of time when looking for something because you know if you need a pair of tweezers you will find it in the beauty bag, and if you need a pen and paper you will find it in you stationary pouch! Just remember to put everything back once you finish using it.
STEP FIVE // ONLY THE ESSENTIALS
No need to carry around stuff just in case! Don't add weight to your bag and your back will thank you! Don't carry an umbrella if you know it's not going to rain, don't bring a huge notebook if you don't tend to write some kind of essay. Keep it as minimal, yet functional, as you can.

Being a minimalist, I like to keep everything as simple as it can be. I only carry with my the bare essentials that I need for my day to day life. This way everything is organized and I don't have to carry lots of weight everywhere I go. If you want, you can go have a look inside my bag.

Another great post, Sophie!
ReplyDeleteReally nice tips. I know I'm going to use them soon, because my bag looks like a total mess inside!
I need to reduce the things I carry in my bag. Maybe I will do this tomorrow!
xo, Emma.
Thanks Emma!
DeleteMy bag also used to look like that, but not anymore (thank god!)
Have a great weekend decluttering your bag!
Sophie.
Some great tips--particularly the one about using pouches. I use small ones to keep little things together and from floating around and getting lost in my bag. I've recently decluttered my bag in an effort to simplify my life and instead of a huge tote I now carry a small bag--that one change has been so liberating! I'm totally on board with this whole minimalist way of thinking :)
ReplyDeleteHey Kisha, thanks for your comment!
DeleteI also use a smaller bag on my day to day life, but when I need to take my camera and larger stuff I carry this large tote. It fits all my needs inside.
I'm so happy that you are liking the minimalist way. It's very liberating!
SOphie.
Great tips, I agree with all of them. I started decluttering my bag every week, then every few days, and now nearly every day. Once I got used to having a nice clean bag, it's easy to keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ingrid!
DeleteThant's awesome. I actually realized that if I only take what I really need with my, and put everything back in its place after using it, that I don't need to declutter my bag that much! Everything is organized all the time =)
