I'm always thinking of the most minimalist way to do stuff, and whenever I search for a Capsule Wardrobe Planner I always come across printable ones, but that does not work for me at all! To start, I don't have a printer, and second, I would have to print images of items that I like and inspirational images.. too many printing when I'm trying not to create more clutter. So I decided to create a simple digital planner for me and for you guys, of course! 

I used Polyvore to do this, it was so easy! It's complete with outerwear, bags, shoes, tops and bottoms. This simple template will help you create a capsule wardrobe for the entire year! Below you can see my capsule wardrobe for 2017!

It's in the details

[EN] Having a minimalist wardrobe may sometimes seem a bit boring, especially if you have a monochrome style like I do, so I prefer to pick up basic pieces that have some interesting aspect to them. As an example I have this black t-shirt from Zara, it's a pretty simple t-shirt, but the fact that is draped and has a mix of materials makes it so much more than a simple black t-shirt.

Other examples that I own are my black jeans, that have zippers on the side and at the end on the ankle. A black tank top that has lace on the bottom, my fake leather jeans, my white sweater that has a flower pattern on the fabric and an asymmetrical black jumper.

All these pieces, although they are basic, have an interesting attribute to them, which makes them different from a simple piece.


[PT] Quando se tem um guarda roupa minimalista muitas vezes pode parecer aborrecido, especialmente se as cores principais são o branco o o preto, por isso prefiro sempre optar por peças que tenham algum interesse visual. Como exemplo tenho esta minha t-shirt preta da Zara, é uma t-shirt bastante simples, mas o facto de ter um drapeado e ter uma mistura de tecidos torna-a completamente diferente e deixa de ser uma simples t-shirt preta.

Outros exemplos que tenho no meu armário: uma jeans pretas com fechos de lado e em baixo nas pernas, um top preto com renda, as minhas calças imitação de pele, uma camisola branca com relevos de flores e uma camisola também assimétrica.

Todas estas peças são consideradas básicas, mas o facto de terem estes pequenas diferenças torna-as únicas e deixam de se tornar tão aborrecidas.

Capsule Wardrobe: Multi Purpuse pieces

When creating a Capsule Wardrobe, one of the aspect we need to take in consideration is the multi-use of the piece you are buying. You should not buy a piece that can only be worn in one way with only those certain pieces. The piece must be versatile so that it can be worn on different occasions and with different pieces. Below are some of my favorite pieces that can be worn in so many different ways!

+ THE BLACK LEATHER SKIRT. I consider this piece to be very versatile. I can wear it in hot and cold months, with blouses or sweaters, with t-shirt and sneakers or button-downs and blazers. I go with all the colors and gives an extra visual interest because it's leather
+ THE GREY SWEATER. I can wear this piece on its own or layer it with a blouse. I can wear it with skirts, jeans, and shorts. When I layer it, I can wear it in the morning when is colder and take it off in the afternoon.



+ THE BLACK BLAZER. This may seem like a more professional item but. I love wearing it with jeans and a t-shirt. A blazer has so many uses nowadays, you can even wear it on its own to make a sexy suit! 



+ THE BUTTON DOWN. I can wear it on its own, layer it, wear it as cover up. I can wear it with skirts and jeans, tuck it in and add a blazer for a more professional look, or just put it on with some jeans and sneakers to a more relaxed look.

Looking for those perfect ankle boots

I have been on a hunt for the perfect pair of black ankle boots.. or Chelsea boots. Since my cat destroyed my current pair of Chelsea boots, I decided it was time to replace them for good. But now I have the dilemma of finding the perfect pair... I'm between the three pairs below, all from H&M. But the ones that I actually love from the bottom of my heart are the ones in the picture from Isabel Marant. They have been on my wishlist for years now, but they are too expensive.

So, on a more wallet-friendly option. I like the ones with the buckles, but they have a cut on the side.. not great for the rain. The ones with the wood heel are made from a very hard material, not sure if they will soften with wear. The last ones caught my eye, but I'm still now sure. Next time I'm in Lisbon I'm going to try all of them and pick the perfect pair. (Also there is a pair in Mango that I like).

The 'cost per wear' formula

Last night I was browsing around the Internet trying to find new things about shopping (or better yet, not shopping) and some better ways of doing it. After a while, I came across an article that mentioned the 'cost per wear' of our clothing and I became interested in finding more about this. So after searching for a few hours and gathering all my findings I decided to share them with you.

  • What is the 'Cost Per Wear'?
The cost per wear is a simple and easy way for you to calculate how much you are spending on an Item every time you wear it, and if the price that you paid for that item was worth it or not. You can also use the formula before buying a certain item, but that will only give you an estimation of the cost per wear of the item.

  • What is the 'Cost Per Wear' formula?
Instead of only relying on the price tag to figure out if the value of the piece is worth it, the cost per wear formula calculates how much it costs you per day you wear it. The formula is simple:

Purchase Price / Number of Days Worn = Price for wear
For example a T-shirt bought for 20€ and worn 10 times will cost: 20/10 = 2€ per wear


  • How to integrate it into your wardrobe planning?
The idea is to have the lowest cost per wear possible, but still pay attention to the quality of the item, this way you should invest in more expensive but better quality pieces so we can keep them over the years. For me there are 3 things that I consider when using this formula: the cost, the number of times that I would be wearing the item and the quality of it.

  • The price
Decide what price range is acceptable for you, to do that you have to consider how much money you can spend on a piece of clothing or shoes, keeping in mind the quality and the times you will wear it, for example:

-» A striped shirt from H&M, synthetic, cost 10€. Gets loose and deformed after 2 laundries. Cost per wear is 10/2=5€ per wear.

-» A striped shirt from UNIQLO, Cotton, cost 30€. Still perfect, didn't stretched or lost colour after 5 months and will continue to last for a long time. Cost per wear: 30/40=0,75€ per wear.

In this case, a 30€ shirt has more value than the 10€ one, even if it’s more expensive. 

  • The number of days worn
The other factor to take into consideration is the number of times you will actually wear it. This will help you decide if the item that you are purchasing fits with your wardrobe, for example:

-» If you buy a 40€ blouse but you only wear it 4 times in one year because the colour or the style fits with almost nothing that you own or was a trend piece that you bought on an impulse, it will cost per wear 40/4=10€ per wear. That makes the piece too expensive.

So to prevent this situation you have 2 options: buy a cheaper piece, knowing that you will only wear it once or twice, or, invest on a piece that fits in to your personal style so that it will work better with your wardrobe. And please, don't fall into the temptation of buying something just because it's on trend, buy it because you know it fits your wardrobe and more important, buy it because it fits your style.

The Joy of Buying Less

There are some things that happen when you buy less stuff and own less stuff, here are some of them.

Getting dressed takes less time.
Remember those mornings when you took 30 minutes just to pick what to wear? well, those days are gone. I now take 5 minutes or less, it's so easy to pick what you want to wear when you know that all your items look good on you and when they are pieces that you love.

I worry less if I’m on trend.
Trends come and go, they can last a week or a month, but when you own less you don't need to worry about all those crazy trends. You don't need to worry about getting that latest pattern just because it's on trend.

Less shopping.
No more waiting in lines to try on clothes, and no more waiting in lines to pay for 5 pieces that you probably will only wear one. No more time wasted shopping.. more time spending with friends and loved ones.

Less things. More experiences.
When we spend less time worrying about our stuff, we can actually enjoy life around us. Even small coffee dates become better than an afternoon cleaning the house that never seems to be clean.

Less quantity. More Quality
We all like quality items, but when we want to buy a lot of things at once we tend to buy cheaper pieces just because it's too expensive to invest in so many things. But when we own less, we can spend a bit more on an item that will last us 5 or 10 years.

The winter Jacket Issue

I must admit that I have never found the perfect winter coat for me, and I know that the reason for that is the fact that I always ended up by getting a cheaper version of what I wanted that didn't even fit right on my body type, but I do believe that I have learned from my mistakes and that now I have made the right decision.

This jacket was much more expensive than what I'm used to, but it's worth every penny. It's the perfect cut and shape for my body, the right colour, the fabric is soft and comfy and it's a really well made coat.

So there you go, when it comes to finding the perfect piece, don't just go with the cheap version... Because if I had bought the right coat in the first place I would have saved a lot of money.

For those who want to start creating a Capsule Wardrobe this is one place you can start. It was made by Caroline from the blog UnFancy, and you can download it and print and just start creating you capsule wardrobe. It's that easy and that simple. 

I haven't made my Capsule Wardrobe using this because this planner is mostly used for a season ( 3 months ) and my Wardrobe is for the entire year, 60 pieces for the entire year. But you can still use this method for more then a season.

Recent Purchases // Key Pieces in my Wardrobe

Since I restarted my minimalistic journey I have realized exactly what my personal style is, and what items look good on me and those that I truly love and like to wear. So, since it was my birthday last month, I decided to use to money my family gave me to invest on a better quality wardrobe. So this are the pieces I got since the beginning of the year.
  • White Top from Primark - Perfect for the hot Summer day, It's a flowy fabric so is very fresh
  • Skirt from Zara - My old black skirt is just too short from me, so this is a perfect alternative
  • Grey T-shirt from Zara - Perfect for a relaxing day
  • Black sweater from Zara - This is great for winter and those cold nights, the fabric is so soft that I could wear it all the time
  • Black blazer from H&M - I need a new black blazer, the other one got damaged
  • Pattern top from Zara - great top for a more dressy outfit, but also for wearing during the day
  • Cream top from Zara - another great dress up top
  • Striped t-shirt from Zara - another basic, casual is always good to mix and match

I bought some basic pieces, like a grey t-shirt, a black blazer, a dark grey skirt and a striped t-shirt. After that I added some fut items that can be mixed and matched with every single piece in my closet. I'm very pleased with my purchases, and I now can stop thinking about shopping because my wardrobe is complete. Nothing is missing, it's perfect for my lifestyle and I completely love it.

Wardrobe Updates

The hard job of creating the perfect wardrobe is starting to give his fruits. As the seasons go by I find myself concentrating more on finding perfect and durable pieces of clothing other then running to the shops to buy the most recent trend pieces. I must confess that sometimes I go down with the ship, and find myself buying something that has made a huge impact on the recent season, but hey, I'm only human. 

I must say that this journey has been very rewarding, and I wish to continue with is for a very long time until I find perfection in my closet, and as many people say, "Perfection takes time" and I'm glad that I have taken the time to create a wardrobe that I'm proud of and that I can call a perfect wardrobe.

I'm also glad of what I have accomplished in the past few months with my list. I have bought a few items that I'm very proud of and that I know that I will own them for a very long time. The list has suffered a few alterations along the way and many items have been crossed out, and I'm really proud of that. Wardrobe Planning

I decided to make a series of posts about my wardrobe and my journey to make it perfect and timeless, adding some trend pieces but basically versatile pieces that can be mixed and match with each other to create various outfits. I don't have a unique style, I like to mix styles according to how I'm feeling that day. I prefer simple clothes, at the moment I'm into the Preppy and Minimalist look, I love boys clothes so my style sometimes gets influenced by it. I love button downs and blazers and oxfords. I'm not a "girly girl", but sometimes I like to dress more like a girl.

So I started by making a list of things that I want/have in my wardrobe. It's a list in construction but the basics are all there, some of the items I want from specific brands, but I'm not naming them all because I may not be able to invest on them.
